My name is Nokukhanya
Mthembu. I am 20years old and I am from the beautiful city
Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu-Natal. My parents died when I
was still very young and I was raised by my grand mother
and uncle.
I accepted Christ as my
Saviour in 2004 as a young, bitter, angry and confused
teenager. It was at a crusade near our house. I remember
clearly the message of the preacher. ‘God has a plan for
your life, not to harm you but to prosper’ (Jeremiah 29)
With all the questions that I was struggling with this
message gave me hope.
Loosing my both my parents
at such a young age made me question my reason for
existence. As a Zulu family, we all stayed together. My
grand parents, uncle’s, aunties and their children.
Watching my cousins enjoying the benefits of having both
their parents made me bitter. My Grand mother was always
there for me though, she was my inspiration.
2008 I was afforded the
opportunity to join the Para-church organisation, Fox
Fire. I volunteered for one year and was the finance
leader in our group. Here I was developed into a leader
who appreciates my background as an African. I was also
challenge to think out of the box regarding the many
challenges that our young people are facing in South
Africa. Here it was also discovered that young people will
approach me naturally for advice.
I have witnessed fellow Fox
Fire graduates that have studied at Cornerstone and have
witnessed the impact that Cornerstone Institute
have in their lives. I am enrolled as a student of
biblical psychology and can’t wait to implement what I am
studying now with the young people of South Africa.
