Learning Communities

Cornerstone is breaking new ground in tertiary education in South Africa. Gone are the days when a student is posted a textbook, studies the whole year on their own and then sits an exam at the end of the year. The modern student requires content that is alive, exciting and dynamic. The modern student learns best in a community of students where there is interaction and peer instruction. The modern student does not mind if this is in a physical place or a virtual space. And finally, the modern student craves interaction with their lecturer. They want to be able to ask questions, discuss ideas, engage and interact with subject matter experts and mentors. If this is how you love to learn then the Cornerstone Learning Community initiative is for you. The CLC Initiative meets all these needs and more.

What exactly does this mean?

It means the classroom is coming to you – and not the other way around. Cornerstone Learning Communities are leading this exciting new educational initiative in South Africa, bringing affordable, high quality tertiary education to your doorstep.

Our cutting-edge learning programmes will combine the convenience of e-learning with the social interaction and other benefits of traditional campus life. Online or distance learning can be lonely and our fully-equipped learning communities have been designed to change that.

Partnering with local organisations, Cornerstone Learning Communities will use their facilities to create accessible learning centres near where you live. These communities will provide a shared learning experience in a supportive environment.

Fully Accredited Programmes

Cornerstone Learning Communities offer a range of Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programmes – fully accredited by the Council on Higher Education.

State-of-the-art technology

Students are supported in their studies where lecturers engage with them online in discussions, answer questions, and promote further exploration of the course content.

How does it work?

Each student will go through the interactive material on their own and can assemble in their local Cornerstone Learning Community with other students in a virtual group discussing and unpacking the concepts and material presented in video lectures.

Each Cornerstone Learning Community is fully equipped with:

  • A dedicated Resource Centre for students to access and use for study. For example for discussion forums, tutorial group meetings, webinars and other virtual meetings for group sessions.
  • A video/projector equipment and internet access.

Costs of our programmes run at 30 percent lower than other private higher education institutions. In addition, studying through Cornerstone Learning Communities allows you to study from home – therefore saving on transport costs and accommodation fees. Thus Cornerstone represents significant savings for parents.
