Certificate in Christian Ministry

 

 (minimum one year full-time or2½ years part-time, 120 credits)

Admission Requirements

  • A grade 12 pass (with matric exemption) or equivalent.

OR

  • Grade 12 pass with conditional exemption on the grounds of mature age (22 years old).

OR

  • Senior Certificate without matriculation endorsement but with a minimum of 2 years experience in the area of Christian ministry.

OR

  • 30 years of age, grade 10 pass and a minimum of 4 years experience in the area of Christian ministry.

OR

  • 40 years of age without any school qualifications, but with a minimum of 4 years experience in the area of Christian ministry.

Options for Participation

  • For credit purposes:

  • GAP year: Monday to Friday, 08h30-15h00, OR

  • Evening class: 2 nights per week, Mondays and Thursdays, 18h00-21h00, 2 year cycle, commence any term.

  • Attendance only:

  • Modules can be taken individually for non-credit purposes at half the cost.

Programme Specified Outcomes

The Certificate in Christian Ministry provides Christians with a foundational, practical theological training to equip and empower them to build God’s Kingdom in their sphere of influence by:

  • Deepening their relationship with the triune God and their trust in Jesus Christ as saviour and friend.

  • Developing creative and critical thinkers who are catalysts for growth and renewal.

  • Developing basic skills in reading the Bible and showing its relevance to meeting pastoral needs in churches and communities, especially in an African context.

  • Bringing them to an understanding of how people’s worldview influences their concept of God and practice of spirituality.

  • Exposing them to a variety of theological views in order to gain a greater critical appreciation of their own.

  • Understanding the basic principles of Christian leadership.

  • Enabling them to minister to people in different cultural contexts.

  • Developing basic communication skills with groups and individuals.

  • Entering tertiary education with the possibility of further studies (modules can be credited towards our BTh programme).
